I've never been in to 'Black Friday,' and I didn't know about 'Cyber Monday' until a few years ago. Most people assume these are the largest shopping days of the year. However, as I was watching the morning news today, I heard several different marketing experts say that the busiest days of the year (at least for online purchases) are later in December. But there is just something about Black Friday and Cyber Monday that send people into a frenzied state of Christmas shopping mayhem. Personally, I hate it. That psycho woman in the Target commercials is beyond my tolerance. And yet just this past weekend I overheard conversations about how people find the ads to be hilarious. Are you kidding me!!?
Maybe I just don't understand it all. Maybe it's more than just finding 'great' deals on products. Perhaps it has turned into an experience for people that thrive in that sort of atmosphere. I've heard many different people say they go shopping on Black Friday just for the adrenaline rush of it all. Certainly it would seem like a war-zone, what with pepper spray and trampling incidents around the country. These experiences are becoming holiday traditions for many families.
Create an experience for your customer. Foster events that are 'not for everyone.' These sort of ideas are the ones that seem to be 'winning' in the market place today.
